MANILA, Philippines — A shipping association urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to extend the tenure of Francisco Comendador II as general manager of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA).

In a letter addressed to Marcos, the Philippine Coastwise Shipping Association (PCSA) cited Comendador’s capability in addressing the changes that CPA faced since he held the position on July 13, 2023.

The association attributed his competency to his experience as a Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, chairman of Barangay Jubay in Lilo-an, Cebu, and Sangguniang member of Lilo-an.

“GM Comendador has also experience in the private sector since he was previously employed in the management of one of the port stakeholders previously operating with CPA, which exposes him to essential port operations,” read the letter signed by PCSA chair Lucio Lim Jr. and president Paul Rodriguez.

“We continue to trust in his dedicated work and we are very certain and assured that if he continues to be the General Manager of CPA, CPA will be the most beneficial to his skills and experience in the Authority’s port administration particularly in Cebu province,” it added.

The PCSA is the biggest ship owners and ship operators group in the country, with more than 50 members operating 800 vessels nationwide.
