    MANILA, Philippines — A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey recorded a lower net satisfaction rating for both houses of Congress in the last quarter of 2024, although most Filipinos were still satisfied with them.

    The results of the survey released on Wednesday showed that 62 percent of Filipinos were satisfied with the performance of the Senate, the upper chamber; while 18 percent were dissatisfied.

    This meant that the Senate logged a net satisfaction rating of good +44 points, while the House posted a net satisfaction rating of good +36 points.

    However, this showed a 5-point decrease for the Senate, which had a net satisfaction rating of +49 points during the previous survey in September 2024; and a 6-point decrease for the House which had a net satisfaction rating of +42 points.

    Net satisfaction is the difference between the percentage points of those satisfied and those dissatisfied, according to the SWS.

    In the December survey, the Senate’s net satisfaction rating was highest in the Visayas at very good +50 points. This was followed by good +44 points in both Mindanao and Balance Luzon, then by good +34 points in Metro Manila.

    Meanwhile, the House’s net satisfaction rating was highest in Balance Luzon at good +42 points. This was followed by +40 points in the Visayas, then by moderate +27 in both Metro Manila and Mindanao.

    The Supreme Court likewise posted a decrease in net satisfaction ratings between September and December 2024 but not to the extent seen in the legislative branch.

    In the December survey, 58 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the performance of the Supreme Court, the highest court in the judicial branch; while 18 percent were dissatisfied.

    This meant the Supreme Court had a net satisfaction rating of good +40 points in December 2024, which was only two points down from the good +42 points in the September survey.

    The National Union of Healthcare Workers, which represents the employees, is negotiating a new contract with the Oakland-based health giant. It said the strikers demand Kaiser hire more people to ease the burden put on the current staff.

    Further, the high court received good scores across all regions of the country, with the highest in the Visayas at good +42 points. This was followed by Mindanao at good +41 points, then Balance Luzon at good +40 points, then Metro Manila at good +37 points.

    The SWS survey was conducted from Dec. 12 to 18 in face-to-face interviews with 2,160 adults.

    It had sampling margins of errors at ±2 percent for the national percentages, ±3 percent for Balance Luzon, and ±5 percent each for Metro Manila, the Visayas and Mindanao.

    Last Wednesday, the pollster found that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s net satisfaction rating dropped by 13 points in December 2024.
