MANILA, Philippines — A fire hit homes in San Andres, Manila on Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, with residents said to have beaten up a man for allegedly causing the blaze.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire broke out at around 6:53 a.m. near Arellano Street and Florentino Torres Street (formerly Dagonoy Street) when first responders rushed to the scene.

Authorities said the blaze was under control at 8:20 a.m. then declared the fire out by 9:07 a.m., about two hours and 14 minutes after it broke out.

Article continues after this advertisementMedical personnel of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), however, reported that a 57-year-old man was beaten up by residents for suspicions that he caused the fire.
Article continues after this advertisementThe city DRRMO said he suffered abrasions in the back of his ear, swelling on his forehead, and scalds on one of his sides and both of his shoulders.
